Harvested by hand during the first week of October. 12 hours of cold maceration were followed by a light pressing to extract the free run juice. The wine (must) underwent slow alcoholic fermentation for 20 days. Afterwards, it aged in stainless steel vats with its lees for 2 months. Stabilization and light filtration occurred before bottling in February 2008.

Not many wines of this price are pulling 90-point scores. But this one deserves it. The wine delivers citrus and piquant green-fruit aromas, which are backed by honeyed melon and lime flavors. The texture is just soft enough to not bite, while the finish is wavy.

Green-yellow color. Pungent bouquet of lemon, lime, quince, dusty minerals and white flowers. Fresh citrus flavors display admirable purity and are braced by piquant minerality. Impressive for its precision and finishing cut.

How do the Spanish manage to sell such terrific wines in euros and ship them across the Atlantic and enable importers to offer them here for such amazing prices? I am at a loss to answer this question, but you can join me in deliberating, because the question will also come to your lips right after this wine hits them. Expressive aromas of grapefruit and nectarine are accented with a nice dried herb note, and the fruit is light and very fresh, but still substantial in impact. Excellent acidity lends a crisp edge to the finish, and this is a great choice for light summer dishes involving shellfish or delicate preparations of fin fish.

The 2007 Valdelainos Verdejo is 100% varietal. The expressive nose reveals mineral, floral notes, and citrus. It offers greater richness, depth, and concentration than the blend. It is easily worth the extra $1.00. Drink it over the next 1-2 years.
