Glenrothes 30 Year Single Malt Scotch Whisky

Situated within the picturesque Spey valley, Rothes is home to five distilleries all tucked along the tiny main street - unbeknown to passing visitors. Amongst these is Glenrothes hidden in a small glen on the outskirts of the village.
Approaching the distillery your eyes are automatically drawn to the right where the village graveyard stretches up the hill. As whisky matures it evaporates this is known as “the angels share”. Feeding off the evaporated whisky is a black sooty fungus, which, at Glenrothes, gives an uncanny eiry look and atmosphere to the place. The blackened grave stones cowering under the shadows of tall black barked trees surrounded by distillery buildings.
On the 15th May 1922 200,000 gallons of maturing whisky went up in smoke. The No.1 cask warehouse was destroyed by fire and as each cask exploded the whisky poured into the Burn of Rothes which runs through the village. A hearsay story recalls how villagers, armed with all sorts of receptacles, scooped up the whisky from the river for consumption later and, in some instances, there on the spot. An old angler retold a wonderful story of how the trout that evening were easily reeled in being docile from the Glenrothes ‘spirit’.
Today Glenrothes single malt is used as the heart of Cutty Sark blended whisky.

Palate: Initially cereal flavours followed by hints of chocolate and smoke

Nose: Sweet sherry notes and charred oak. More balanced with delicate aromas
Palate: Smooth, creamy vanilla notes together with the sherry influence
Body: Full with soft mouth feel
Finish: Long and warming
