Bacardi Limon Rum

BACARDI LIMÓN is a carefully crafted product that judiciously combines the best of the distiller’s art. Excellent BACARDI Superior rum infused with the essence of the royal family of citrus fruits, the lemon, the lime and the under-appreciated but intense grapefruit.

The citrus: Lemon is a yellow oval fruit with a ripple like and most famous for the delightful summer drink "lemonade" that is made from the simple yet elegant lemon fruit. Lime (Latin: citrus aurantifolia) is a green round fruit long anointed with rum and for excellent reasons, makes a great tasting, refreshing drink and prevents scurvy on old sailing ships!

Grapefruit (Latin: Citrus paradisi): the Latin name is revealing. This large round yellow skinned fruit delivers a real eye opening tartness and with a drying, slightly bitter finish to the taste. Grapefruit is the right citrus to complete the trifecta of citrus fruits for Limón.

Selecting the fruit is the first critical step but coaxing it to yield its essence of flavor is the most difficult part. The peel contains the intense "essential oil" of the fruit. This essence must be carefully "expressed" from the fruit at the peak of flavor development. The process is called "cold pressing". The essence must be protected from heat and oxygen, the age-old enemies of freshness.

Once expressed, the essence is taken up in the pure BACARDI Superior Rum, which becomes cloudy as the non-flavor components of the essential oil are thrown out of coloration. The resulting mixture must be slowly and carefully passed through a bed of finely divided charcoal in order that these insoluble components are absorbed and removed from the Limón. Finally, the product is ready to be enjoyed with juice, tonic, or on the rocks.
